From the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR)
Perhaps we could make an intentional effort to commit to praying this, the Prayer for the Synod, daily throughout October. We encourage you to pray this during these next weeks with the belief that our unity in prayer can make a difference. The prayer can be found below.
Prayer for the Synod
We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
Do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path
nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life
and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time,
in the communion of the Father and the Son,
forever and ever.
Amen.
Prayers are requested for the following sick and needy Sisters, Family, Associates, Friends and Benefactors and for those who companion them during this time:
Prayers are requested for the departed souls of our Sisters, Family, Associates, Friends and Benefactors and for the comfort and consolation of their families:
Happy Guardian Angel Day! Have you thanked your special Angel lately?
Though the lowest rank of the 9 Choirs of Angels, it is our personal Guardian Angel who accompanies us from birth to death. Some get to travel all over the earth while others are homebound. Some have to work hard to keep us out of mischief. Don’t you wonder what their “conversations” are like when they get together to share their stories. M-m-m…. As children we learned a simple prayer to them: “Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, ever this day be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.” Does your Guardian Angel have a name? If not, now is the time! Conversation between us and them flows so much more easily when we address our Guardian Angel by name.
3. TUESDAY - Transitus
Prayers are requested for the needs of our congregation.

A MOMENT IN TIME
Celebrating 130th Anniversary of the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters
1894 ~ 2024
Radiating the Mystery of God’s Love
There are moments in time in the history of the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters where we recognize God’s love and goodness in people and in events unfolding and pause to give thanks to the Giver of all gifts. It is with humble hearts that we celebrate in gratitude the awesome gifting from our God. We pray that we may radiate with joy, the unfolding of the mystery of God’s love in our daily lives.
Mother Veronica Grzedowska and her companions embarked on American soil in New York Harbor on October 16, 1894 after their 10-day voyage from Bremen on the steamship EMS. Not knowing the language in this new land, they were given all the necessary assistance by the steamship agent. With little money in her purse, Mother Veronica purchased a crucifix and a statue of the Sacred Heart on the threshold of the new world. The cross and the Sacred Heart were a synthesis of the life of Mother Veronica and her work. The monument of Jesus with the words of “In Hoc Signo Vinces,” translated as “In this sign you shall conquer” on the cross in his hands before the convent’s main entrance is a reminder of Mother Veronica’s spirit. In the shadow of the cross she was to plant the seed of her new community whose full growth her bodily eyes were never to see. [Source: A Bernardine Sister (identified as Sister Cantalicia Snarska). Under the Shadow of the Almighty: The life story of Mother Veronica first superior of the Bernardine Sisters in America, 1950. See pp. 52-54.]
National Boss’ Day is celebrated on October 16th each year unless the day falls on a weekend. Take a moment to visualize walking in Bosses’ shoes and thank God that you can retire at night having walked in your own more comfortable, less-pinching-of-the-toes shoes! Sweet Simplicity! Ah-h-h! Happy day to all who serve in leadership in our Congregation, in the Church, in religious and secular organizations! May God gift all Bosses with many graces and blessings to enable them to bear the load, thankful, at the same time, for all who work with them to make their load a bit lighter.

Bringing Forth Christ:
Five Feasts of the Child Jesus
Advent Retreat Time
Join us for this Advent Reflection based on a very small book (title above) by Saint Bonaventure. For each feast he names, there is an associated grace: His Conception; His Birth; His Naming; the Adoration of the Magi; and the Presentation in the Temple. We will introduce each grace as understood by Bonaventure. In light of these, most of our reflection will focus on how the call to be Christian is a call to bring forth Christ into our hurting world.
Saint Paul wrote, “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” (1 Cor. 12: 7). Recognizing, identifying, and embracing the Gospel gift entrusted to you is the Advent journey that gives birth to Christ, making Him visible and real to those who encounter us. See you on December 3!
